Modelled after the event in Nagasaki, Japan which shared its name, the festival included four military bands along with fireworks celebrating the opening of the scenic road on Mt. ![]() ![]() A couple years later, the largest scale performance to date occurred at the Feast of Lanterns. This first performance featured Pietro Satriano and a 25-piece brass band, and signified the opening of the Amphitheatre to the public. The Red Rocks land had recently been purchased by former Cosmopolitan Magazine owner John Brisben Walker, who intended to turn the park into an outdoor symphonic hall. The first documented performance at the venue, penned The Grand Opening of the Garden of the Titans, occurred on. The origins of a world-famous venue (1906-1963) Alcohol bans, riots and outright bans of rock music have plagued Red Rocks as it transitioned from natural wonder to modern theater. However, much of that history cannot be found written on those walls. Modern artists such as Bon Iver and The Flobots have had the honor of signing their names to the narrow, rocky stairwell, thereby adding themselves to the veritable who’s who of rock n’ roll history. I assume you'll need a butt pillow of some kind for those hard wooden seats for a 2-4 hour show with zero back support.(Photo: courtesy of Red Rocks Amphitheatre)Backstage at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, history is literally written on the walls: the stairway that leads to the stage has signatures and inscriptions from countless performers that have been blessed to grace the legendary stage. We loved it and can't wait to return and experience a live show. Lovely walk to/from with stunning views (wear sunscreen/travel with water at all times/wear proper footwear w/socks)Ī lot of people and many with their cute pets admiring the space, some taking photos of all the scenic views or Amphitheatre itself, others exercising or taking walks/hikes on the trails, plenty siting and taking in all the historic beauty Some construction was going on but there were still paths to get inside the open air amphitheater In 2015, Colorado Music Hall of Fame opened its doors at the Trading PostĮntrance is always free when there isn't a concertīeautiful drive on the way there and on the way in We instead came March of 2023 and learned concerts typically occur during the summer/early fall but decided to go anyways to admire the 1941 venue that sits 6,450 feet above sea level, with natural rock formations and it's walls that contain records dating back to the Jurassic period 160 million years ago with discovered dinosaur tracks and fossil fragments of 40' Plesiosaur We always said when we get to visit Denver, our first point of business was to experience a live concert at Red Rocks, we tried to come in October 2022 to see Phantogram & Young the Giant live but didn't make it It is spectacular to watch the sun set as the night lights of Denver fill the sky. (There were multiple port-a-potties as well at the entrance waiting area.) I am not sure there is a bad seat in the house. There are concessions available and restrooms. ![]() You will be sitting on solid cement or aluminum seats. Some information said you could not bring phones in, but phones were allowed at the concert we were at. Check the restrictions on what you can and cannot bring in. (You can go to the park during nonconcert times as well.) While a spectacular land formation, getting into the amphitheater does require a decent hike with additional stairs to get to your seats. We gathered at the wait area until the park was open for the concert. We were able to secure tickets to an amazing Beatles tribute band 1964. We had convinced friends we were traveling with to add this stop while we were in the area.
